The world has a lot of fascinating sights, it’s full of complex and ancient places built by the civilizations of that era and which are now being preserved by the successors of those civilizations. There are remarkable and breathtaking landmarks across the globe which have never failed to impress generations.
Although there are no single criteria to determine what is best or to categorize them in any particular order as it is purely dependent upon the unique nature of every person but following are by far the most visited and the most liked places by the masses across the globe.
1 – Stonehenge
Stonehenge is almost 3000 years old which is located near Salisbury. It not only is an ancient ruin but also a mystery since the time it was built. There have been theories explaining the reason for its origin but they are only theories and nothing got proven over the ages. Stonehenge’s stones are from whales and it’s a beautiful and mysterious site that should be visited. It has been fenced off so no one can go into the circle per se but visitors can walk around the beautiful attraction.
2 – Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is a located in southern Peru and it was in the list of new seven wonders around the globe in 2007. It was the cultural hub of Inca Civilization. It is also known as “The Lost City of the Incas” as it had gotten abandoned during the Spanish civilization. Machu Picchu is located on top of the mountains and the only ways to reach there are by train or by trekking for four days. All the effort, without a doubt, is worth the trouble one has to go through to reach there.
3 – Angkor Wat
Located in Cambodia, The Angkor Wat (this is one of the many temples in the ancient city, Angkor Wat. This was built to be the state temple hence it was named after the city) is a beautiful remain of the Khmer Empire’s incredible architecture which ruled most of Southeast Asia. The empire built a lot of other buildings and temples around the city of Angkor Wat before it fell and left a great legacy for the generations to come.
4 – Colosseum and Roman Forum
Rome is a place full of architectural marvels. Colosseum and Roman Forum are located quite near to each other and their sight is simply breathtaking. Their architecture is not only unique but it carries history with it. Sadly, Colosseum has started to crumble with the passage of time and most of its area is restricted now as a safety measure. Roman Forum is great for a long and serene walk through. Due to these and other architectural pieces throughout Rome, it is known as an eternal city.
5 – Tikal
Tikal, located in Guatemala, is a Mayan city-state which has been one of the best preserved and one of the largest ruins ever. Tikal was a dominant force in the classic period. The place is beautiful and peaceful especially when the tourist crowds go away because the place is almost always jam-packed with the sightseers. Traveling to historical places takes us away from our time to those ancient times and let us live a different era which proves to be beautiful not to mention a therapeutic experience.
