Why Summertime is a Great Time to Learn Arabic

EducationWhy Summertime is a Great Time to Learn Arabic

Summer is in full swing here in the Arab world, and what better time to take advantage of the warm weather and longer days than studying Arabic. Why is summertime the best time to learn Arabic? Well, here are just a few reasons from kaleela.com:

Go For a Drive

If you are interested in learning Arabic, the summer can be a great time to “test drive” a language program without the pressure of being an “official” student, as many places offer a “part-time” Arabic course in the summer. It’s a great way to add it as a part of your year-round lifestyle of learning.

Forget Those Lazy Days of Summer

If you’re already studying Arabic but taking a break for the summer, be sure to schedule practice time. You’ve probably heard the expression “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it”, so if you don’t want to lose any of the languages you’ve studied hard to learn so far, you must make time for it. As little as 15-30 minutes is usually enough. And make it fun! Watch the Arabic series Jinn on Netflix, listen to Arabic music, or try to meet some Arabic friends while you’re lounging around scrolling through Facebook.

See the World!

Summers weren’t meant for sitting indoors all day doing nothing. It’s vacation time, and there are so many things you can do to incorporate Arabic into your summer fun. If you’re planning to travel to one of the Arabic speaking countries, you can incorporate language study into your preparation for the trip and practice the language while you’re there. Additionally, you can get a full immersion experience by choosing a homestay which is often less expensive than hotels and usually includes food. Living with another family is not only a great way to practice your Arabic, but it also gives you and the rest of your family a great education opportunity to learn about Arab culture and see how Arab families live.

If you can’t afford to travel abroad, look for family camps near your home. If you live in Minnesota, for example, the Concordia Language Schools offers week-long family camps. The Middlebury College in Vermont also has a highly respected program for Arabic learners who are traveling solo.

Right In Your Own Backyard

Of course, you don’t have to travel far from home to learn Arabic. Many cities often have cultural festivals throughout the summer, and Arab cultural festivals are included. It’s a great place to immerse yourself in the language and culture (and, of course, some delicious Arab food). Who knows? You might even meet some Arabic language speaking partners while you’re there who can help you in your quest to speak Arabic.

In the Palm of Your Hand

With today’s technological advances, you’re never far from language learning. In fact, you might even have a smartphone in your hand while you’re reading this now that allows you to download language learning apps such as the Kaleela  Arabic language learning app.  Language learning apps are convenient. You can use them on the beach or on the sofa at home. However you spend your summer, the kaleela Arabic language learning app is never too far away and available 24 hours a day.

Although any time of the year is good, summertime is, indeed, a great time to learn Arabic. So, get out there and enjoy them, but practice your Arabic too! Were these tips helpful to you?
